The government on Thursday approved an initiative to develop a masterplan for facilitating development in all areas of the country.
The initiative was approved at a National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the NEC office in the capital.
Planning Minister Major General Abdus Salam (retd) tabled the proposal and revealed some details at a press conference at the NEC Bhaban.
The plan would prioritise participatory and inclusive development as inputs from both local lawmakers and local upazila parishad chairmen would be incorporated.
It would facilitate undertaking of development projects in both backward and progressive upazilas. The disparity in development across different districts would also be eliminated, once the masterplan starts being implemented.
Many previous, rural development project plans focused on specific upazilas, leaving out backward upazilas. But in the new masterplan, upazilas of all development levels would be prioritised.
Key focus would be on developing infrastructure, health, communication and education in all the rural areas across the country, the planning minister said at the press conference on Thursday adding the plan would span one or five years.
