Govt increases healthcare budget, implements targeted reforms for marginal communities: State Minister Muhit

State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit announced on Saturday that the government has significantly increased the health budget and initiated specific reform programs to bring comprehensive transformations to the healthcare sector and ensure quality medical services at citizens' doorsteps.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a divisional review workshop on integrated Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, e-Tracker, and health operations across Rajshahi Division. The workshop was organized by the Divisional Health Office in collaboration with UNICEF at a hotel in Rajshahi.
He emphasized that the HPV vaccination program to prevent cervical cancer has been given top priority, instructing health officials to keep immunization drives uninterrupted for children and vulnerable populations.
The State Minister further highlighted that steps are underway to upgrade every Upazila Health Complex into a 151-bed modern facility. He added that the government is actively working on digital health transformation, establishing modern pathological laboratories, strengthening Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) corners, and upgrading administrative efficiency.
Addressing manpower shortages at the grassroots level, Dr. Muhit stressed resolving legal hurdles swiftly to fill vacant posts and ensure regional equity in doctor postings.
Chaired by Divisional Health Director Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, the workshop was attended by MP for Rajshahi-3 Md. Shafiqul Haq Milon and Director General of Health Services Prof Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas as special guests, alongside civil surgeons, upazila health officers, and administration officials from across the division.
