Govt building more favourable environment for foreign investment: ICT Minister

Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faqir Mahbub Anam said, the government is firmly committed to ensuring a secure and favorable environment for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bangladesh.
The Minister made these remarks during a courtesy meeting with the South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh, Kim Ji-joon, at his Secretariat office on Monday.
Minister Anam highlighted that the core objective of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is to ensure that affordable smartphones and digital services reach citizens in the most remote corners of the country. In addition to expanding digital connectivity, the government is focusing on making smart devices accessible to the general public.
He further noted that the government categorizes mobile phone manufacturing and tech industries as high-priority national sectors.
Ambassador Kim Ji-joon lauded Bangladesh's investment potential and proposed the introduction of a simplified, long-term visa framework for foreign investors.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing high optimism regarding the expansion of mutual cooperation and the implementation of upcoming joint technology ventures. The meeting was also attended by Bilkis Jahan Rimi, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division; Lee Namsoo, First Secretary of the South Korean Embassy; and Jungmin Jung, Country Manager of Samsung Electronics.
