Finally, the residents of Gobindaganj upazila, the gateway to Rangpur division, got a Dhaka-bound intercity train stop as an Eid gift. The locals had been demanding at least one Dhaka-bound intercity train stop at Mahimaganj railway station in Gaibandha for a long time.
In view of their demand, the railway authorities have decided to stop the intercity Burimari Express train at Mahimaganj station from Monday. This news is a source of joy in the entire upazila.
According to relevant sources, although three intercity trains were running on the Santahar-Lalmonirhat-Rangpur rail route, no train stopped at Mahimaganj station. However, the need for a train stop in this region, which is important in terms of education, culture and trade, had been felt for a long time. In view of the demands of the locals in this regard, a halt at Mahimaganj station has been added to the new 54th time table of Burimari Express train, which came into effect from the 10th of this month.
According to the new schedule, the Dhaka-bound (down) and Burimari-bound (up) trains will be closed every Tuesday of the week and Wednesday of the week. On other days, the Burimari-bound (up) train and the Dhaka-bound (down) train will halt at Mahimaganj railway station at 3:45 pm and 1:30 am, respectively.
Local businessman Mozammel Haque said, "I have to go to Dhaka occasionally due to my business. The halt of this train will be very convenient for my business and trade."
Mahimaganj Railway Station Master Sohag Khan confirmed the matter. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain called it an "Eid gift" for fulfilling the long-standing demand of the Gobindaganj upazila residents.
