Gano Forum demands election in Dec

Staff Correspondent

The Gano Forum  demanded the National Parliamentary Elections by December 2025, says a press release.

The Presidium of the Party  made this demand at a  discussions meeting  held at 3 pm on Friday at its central office.

The statement made by Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, during his visit to Japan—that no party except one wants a national election—is not correct.

. Gano Forum has long been demanding that necessary reforms be implemented and steps be taken to hold a free, fair, and acceptable election by December. However, the remarks made by the Chief Adviser and other advisers regarding the election appear vague and confusing. As a result, a tendency of division among active political parties has become noticeable.

In order to reap the benefits of the mass uprising, it is essential to establish democracy, the rule of law, and voting rights in the country. The government has failed to adopt any specific roadmap or concrete plans for the required reforms. It is unfortunate that the responsibility is being shifted onto political parties.

The recent rumors about the Chief Adviser’s resignation and meetings with several political parties have further disappointed the nation. The exclusion of Gano Forum from the latest round of discussions with political parties indicates the government's attempt to create divisions among active political groups.

The meeting noted that in the past nine months, the government has failed to take effective steps to restore law and order or resolve instability in public administration. Furthermore, no significant reforms or visible actions have been observed to ensure a free, fair, and acceptable election. As a result, public support for the government is declining, and doubts are growing among both political parties and the public.

In the meeting of the Gano Forum Presidium, a demand was made for the immediate announcement of a clear election roadmap. It was also emphasized that everyone must remain alert so that no malicious force can undermine the national unity that has been formed to establish democracy and good governance in the country through a mass uprising in July.

The meeting was presided over by Presidium Member Adv S. M. Altaf Hossain. Among others present were the party’s General Secretary Dr. M. Mizanur Rahman, senior Adv Subrata Chowdhury, Adv  Jaglul Haider Afrik, Mezbahauddin, Moshtaq Ahmed, Adv Suraiya Begum, Adv Selim Akbar, Shah Nuruzzaman, and other party leaders.
