Flood victims in Kulaura want rehabilitation, not relief

After the flood waters caused by torrential and heavy rains from India last week receded, the picture of damage is becoming clear. Hundreds of people's houses and roads in the area were destroyed by the sudden flood. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land have also been damaged. Even though the flood water has receded, the suffering of the affected people has not ended yet. Hundreds of thousands of people in the flood-affected areas have lost their homes and are living a miserable life. Such a picture of Tillagaon Union of Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar.

Several areas including Miarpara, Hajipur of Tilagaon Union have been the most affected by the sudden flood this year. This is like a war-torn land. Due to the flood, the houses of more than three hundred families of the union have been completely damaged. Although the flood waters have receded, many affected people have not yet been able to return to their homes. It can be seen on the ground that 20-25 houses were completely destroyed and 15-16 houses were partially damaged in Miarpara village of Tilagaon Union of the upazila. Tariboon Begum (45), a poor widow of the village, stands on the embankment on the river bank. When asked, he said, I lost my husband a long time ago and my only 16-year-old son is sad. Day laborer Shamim Ahmad said, "When my mud house was destroyed in the flood, the tin shed above the house was washed away by the strong current of water." The earthen house has completely disappeared.

They have lost everything and are now destitute. The affected people of the affected areas appealed to everyone to stand by and help rebuild their homes in this ongoing disaster.

Junab Ali, a member of Ward No. 7 of Tilagaon Union, said that severe floods occurred when the two defense dams of the Manu River broke in Miarpara and Hajipur villages of my ward. Many people's houses and agricultural lands have been damaged. After the initial inventory, it was found that about half a hundred houses in the ward were completely destroyed. Another 60-70 houses were badly damaged.

Tilagaon Union Parishad Chairman Md. Abdul Malik said that the water level of Manu River was very high due to flood. Due to the breach of the defense embankment at three places in the Union, there was a terrible flood. Hundreds of people's houses, agricultural land, fisheries and many resources have been damaged. Many people are destitute. It will take them a long time to recover from this loss. In rehabilitating houses of affected people in my area.

Along with the government, the rich people of the society are also invited to come forward. The list of damages is being prepared by going to the affected areas on the ground. nKulaura Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Shimul Ali said that according to the initial information received, 350 houses have been destroyed. Several hundred more houses were damaged. Listing through public representatives Kulaura Upazila Executive Officer Md. Mohi Uddin said that the houses of the flood victims were destroyed.
