Flood hits Sylhet road network

Flooding has hit hard the road network in the district and adjoining areas, causing immense sufferings for general people. As many parts of local roads have been damaged, people have to suffer much to move from one place to another.

The badly damaged roads are Salutikor- Gowainghat road, Darbast-Kanaighat road. Sylhet-Charkhai-Zakiganj road, Companiganj-Chhatak road, Mirganj- Manikkona road and Sylhet city part of Sylhet-Dhaka highway.

Sylhet LGED Executive Engineer Md Faruque Hossain told that some 160 kilometre of roads in rural areas were inundated by the flash flood.

"We would have to assess the final damage after the situation improves further with the full recession of floodwater."He also claimed that some emergency repair work was carried out immediately.

Roads and Highways Executive Engineer Md Amir Hossain informed that 39.20 kilometre of roads was damaged partly or fully by flooding in Sylhet district and neighbouring areas.

The damage has been preliminarily estimated at Tk 855 million (85.50 crore), he said, adding that the final damage would be assessed after the flood water will recede totally.
