First Sylhet origin Harun Miah awarded title of 'Alderman'

Harun Miah, the first Bangladeshi of Sylhet origin, was awarded the title of 'Alderman' in Asia Subcontinent. He served as a councilor for 16 years and deputy mayor for 4 years from 2007 to 2023 for four consecutive terms in the Eastern Borough Council elections in the United Kingdom.
He is a native of Sriramsi village of Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district of Greater Sylhet.
He was also awarded this 'Alderman' award for his contribution to Bangladeshi community and mainstream community for four decades. Last Wednesday, Mayor of Ishtavarna Kandi Vaughn handed over the title of 'Alderman', certificate and medal to Harun Miah.
