Fire breaks out in 6-storey building in Chitalmari, woman killed

A housemaid named Anita died in a fire that broke out in a 6-storey building called Maisha Plaza, known as Bank Para in Chitalmari Upazila Sadar of Bagerhat.
About 25 others were injured during this time. Fire service workers said that the fire started around 9 am on Monday. This building houses Sonali Bank, Krishi Bank, IFIC Bank, clinics and several shops. Locals and fire service workers initially believe that the fire may have started from an RFL godown below the building. 5 units of the fire service, army, police, and local people worked on rescue operations and fire control and were able to completely extinguish the fire around 1 pm.
However, the extent of the damage has not yet been determined, the local administration said. Several patients undergoing cesarean and operation at the clinic located in the building were quickly rescued and sent to various hospitals. Upon receiving the news of the fire, Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Hasan reached the scene and supervised the rescue operation.
