Fellow Worker Dies In Accident RMG workers block Dhaka-Mymensingh highway
Gazipur Correspondent
The workers of Golden Refit Garments Ltd. have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Baghair Bazar area of Gazipur Sadar Upazila following the death of a worker in a road accident.
The protest began around 8:00 am on Wednesday (12 March), and shortly afterward, they started blocking the highway.
As vehicular movement came to a halt, passengers traveling on the highway faced severe difficulties. Many were forced to continue their journey on foot.
The protesting workers said that Jannatul Ferdous Tamanna (32), a worker at Golden Refit Garments Ltd., had requested leave from APM Matiur Rahman around 9:00 pm on Tuesday night as her child was sick. However, instead of granting leave, he took away her factory-issued ID card and sent her away.
Tamanna then returned home, but on Wednesday at 5:40 am, she was killed in a road accident while on her way to the factory.
Later, the factory authorities made misleading statements about her death, denying that she was their worker.
This created confusion among the workers, leading to outrage. In protest, they blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
