Farmers are happy with the bumper yield of watermelons in Bhola's char fashion.

As the weather is favorable, they have got a good watermelon yield this year, they said.

According to local sources, thousands of hectares of land are planted in the dry season in various coastal areas of Charfashan upazila. This year, due to the favorable weather conditions, there has been a bumper yield of both the fruits. And this watermelon is going to different districts of the country including Dhaka, Chittagong and Barisal. Farmers are also in a happy mood due to the bumper crop.

Ripe watermelons are being sold even after the bumper yield of watermelons in Charfashion puts a smile on the faces of the farmers. Wholesalers have also started coming to the door of the farmers in the hope of more profit in early watermelons. Many farmers are selling the entire crop in advance at a higher profit. Analysts believe that this time the farmers will have more profit with capital. Several farmers said that last year, watermelon farmers lost capital and were in debt, but this time it can be paid off.

About 11 thousand 780 hectares of land have been cultivated in various grazing areas including Mujibnagar, Nazrulnagar, Kalmi, Neelkamal, Noorabad, Ahmedpur Union of Sarezmin Upazila.

Alauddin, a watermelon grower of Ahmedpur village of Charfashan said, this time the total sales of 8 lakh taka were made by cultivating watermelons on 2 plots of land. Early watermelons are being sold at a slightly higher price in the bazaars. According to the market, each watermelon is being sold at the price of Tk 150 to Tk 350. Also, each pitch bangi is retailing at Tk 100 to Tk 150.

Artdar Jamal Uddin said, although there was a loss last year, there will be more profit in watermelon this year. Upazila Agriculture Officer Rukuzzaman said that melons and bangi have been cultivated on 11 thousand 780 hectares of land. So that the watermelon farmers do not get into trouble, field level assistant Kamruzzaman Shipon and others are constantly visiting the field and giving advice to the farmers.
