Farmers disappointed as Aman paddy price falls at Sherpur in Bogra

Sherpur (Bogra) Correspondent

In Sherpur of Bogra, the fall in the price of Transplanted Aman paddy has left an impression of worry on the faces of the farmers.

Farmer Abu Shama of village Shah Bandegi Union came to sell paddy at Mirzapur Market on Tuesday . When asked about the price of paddy, he said, "What is the point of planting paddy if it doesn't meet up our need ?" Currently, by selling one maund of paddy, the money runs out to buy 1 kg of beef and some vegetables. He cultivated paddy with three bighas of land. To take lease land of one bigha, an additional cost of seven thousand taka .

Due to lack of rain, the land has to be cultivated with shallow machine irrigation. One bigha of land for irrigation is Tk 2000, in addition to preparation of seed bed, cultivation of land, fertilizer, pesticides, oil cutting, weeding of land, labor cost for planting rice in the land and cutting paddy, the cost of cultivating one bigha of land is about Tk 13 thousand taka.

Due to untimely rains, there has been an increase in the number of paddy beetles in many fields. As a result, the production of paddy has decreased by half. Production has fallen even as production costs have increased. This time 12 to 13 maunds of paddy is grown in one bigha of land.

Currently in the market swarna rice is 1120 tk per maund, Brri 49 paddy is 1170 tk per maund,

Katari bhog paddy is being sold at 1450 tk to 1500 tk per maund, Ranjit paddy from 1200 tk to 1220 tk per maund, Guti Swarna at Tk. 1060 tk per maund. That is, the minimum is 1120 taka per mound and the maximum is 1250 taka. In other words, the cost of production is not raised by selling the paddy produced per bigha of the land leased to the farmers who are cultivating paddy.

Their loss is about 6 thousand tk per bigha land. On the other hand, there is a syndicate of faryas. Sometimes they stop buying paddy by making a syndicate. Later, everyone buys it at a low price. As a result, they are forced to sell paddy at a price of 100 tk per head to the foriyas.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, this year, the target of cultivation of Ropa Aman paddy was set on 21 thousand 860 hectares of land in ten unions in the upazila. 22 thousand 433 hectares were acquired.
