Farmer's success in growing beans along Lalmohan road in Bhola

Jahidul Islam Dulal, Lalmohan (Bhola)

In Lalmohan Upazila of Bhola, four farmers got success by cultivating beans on the roadside.

They cultivate beans of Bari-1 and other by-products on about 1000 meters of land on both sides of the road in Pangasia area of Ward No. 4 of West Char Umed Union of Upazila. These four farmers are Md. of that area. Jahangir, Md. Khorshed Alam, Md. Alamgir and Md. Jebel Haque Sardar. Beans are now swinging in bunches from their cultivated plants. Farmers have already sold beans worth several thousand taka from there.

Bean farmers Jahangir, Khorshed Alam, Jebel Haque Sardar and Alamgir said that these lands along the road were uncultivated for a long time. However, with the advice of the agriculture office and the free seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and nets provided by them, we started cultivating beans on the side of the road for the first time. The trees are now in profusion of flowers and fruit. Each of us farmers have already sold 4-5 thousand taka worth of beans. The amount of beans and flowers that are still on the tree can be sold for about 20-25 thousand taka. Although for the first time this year we got a good yield. Next year we will increase the amount of land by increasing the amount of cultivation.

Local residents said. Suman, Noor Islam and school teacher Yashin said that for years we have seen that the areas next to this road were abandoned and surrounded by forests. However, this year, four farmers in our area have cultivated beans in the abandoned areas along the road. Their plants have more beans. We hope they will benefit greatly from this. At the same time, we locals can buy fresh vegetables at low prices.

In this regard, Tutul Chandra Saha, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Lalmohan Agriculture Office, said, "Our aim is that no land should remain uncultivated." For that purpose, this year I encouraged four farmers of Pangasia village of the upazila to grow beans on the abandoned land beside the road. For which these farmers have been given free fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, nets and training. They succeeded in growing beans as per our advice for the first time.

This assistant agriculture officer also said, we are always on the side of the farmers. In the future, if anyone is interested in beet cultivation in this way, they will also be given the maximum support by Lalmohan Upazila Agriculture Office with necessary advice and materials.
