Expat’s son stages ‘Robbery Drama’ : 3 teenage boys arrested, looted cash, gold recovered in Rupganj

Police have unearthed the mystery behind a reported daylight robbery at the house of an expatriate in the Kanchon area of Rupganj, Narayanganj. Investigations revealed that the expatriate’s own son, along with two of his friends, staged the robbery to buy a new mobile phone and purchase Free Fire game IDs. Police disclosed the startling information after arresting the three teenagers on Friday night and recovering the stolen cash and gold ornaments.
The arrests were made from their residences in the Kanchon area of the upazila on Friday night.
The arrested juveniles are: Shahriar, an eighth-grade student and son of expatriate Abdur Rashid; Nabil, a ninth-grade student and son of Hanif Mia; and Shah Alam, a sixth-grade student and son of Ali Hossain. All three study at Kanchon Bharat Chandra High School.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam said that on November 24, a shocking incident was reported — Shahriar was allegedly tied up and beaten while miscreants broke into the almirah and looted Tk 10 lakh in cash and 10 bhori of gold ornaments from the house. Based on the complaint filed by expatriate Abdur Rashid, a robbery case was lodged at Rupganj Police Station.
However, the truth surfaced when Shah Alam purchased a new mobile phone on Friday night. His family questioned the source of the money, and upon further inquiry by locals, Shahriar, Nabil and Shah Alam were detained and allegedly beaten. During questioning, the trio confessed to staging the robbery themselves.
Police later recovered Tk 2 lakh 78 thousand in cash and 2 bhori of gold ornaments from their possession.
