Environment Ministry trashes reports of attack on adviser’s motorcade in Sherpur

The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry has dismissed as "misleading and inaccurate" media reports that the motorcade of its adviser came under attack in Sherpur.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry clarified that Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Water Resources, visited the Daudhara Garo Hills Tourist Centre in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur as part of a pre-scheduled programme.
Following her visit, she spoke to journalists and proceeded to inspect a long-term plantation project under the Madhutila Range.
Later, she attended a public gathering in Madhutila where she distributed compensation to families affected by human-elephant conflict and discussed forest conservation and human-wildlife coexistence.
“All events were held in a peaceful and cordial manner, with no untoward incidents taking place,” the ministry stated.
It further noted that there was a reported verbal altercation between a few journalists and individuals at a separate location, but emphasised that the incident had no connection to the Advisor’s visit or her entourage.
