Embassy Sends Letter, US to deport illegal Bangladeshis
Diplomatic Correspondent
In line with US President Donald Trump’s previously announced policy, the United States is set to deport illegal Bangladeshis, as it is doing with nationals from other countries.
The government of Bangladesh has made preparations to address this issue. Bangladesh has requested the US government to ensure that its citizens are treated with respect during deportation.
Before the US election, Donald Trump announced that if he won, he would deport all illegal immigrants from various countries. Following through with this policy, the US is now also deporting illegal Bangladeshis. The government has already sent out notifications regarding this.
On Wednesday, an inter-ministerial meeting convened at the Secretariat to discuss the deportation of undocumented Bangladeshi citizens from the US.
The meeting was chaired by Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the meeting.
According to meeting sources, discussions were held on various aspects of receiving illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Bangladesh will continue diplomatic efforts to ensure that they do not face any difficulties returning home.
