Election won't be allowed to take place despite schedule: BNP
Staff Correspondent
Rejecting the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election schedule vehemently, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) played a joke with the nation by announcing the schedule.
"The CEC's langiage reflects the Prime Minister's language. Despite the announcement of schedule, election will not be held, and election will not be allowed to take place in the country," he said.
In an instant reaction to the announcement of the schedule, Rizvi said, "The government has once again hatched a blueprint to hold one-party election. And, the Election Commission has appeared as the trusted refuge to implement that blueprint.
The present Election Commission is the subservient selection of the government elected through night-time voting. The main objective of this commission is to bring Awami League government to power again. Had this commission been neutral, it would not have announced the election schedule ignoring the public opinion. In spite of the announcement of the schedule, election will not be held and won't be allowed to take place in the country."
Voting in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held on January 7 next. The Election Commission has set the date keeping 52 days between the announcement of the schedule and holding the voting. The CEC announced the eelction schedule through a televised address to the nation on Wednesday afternoon.
