An elderly man lost his life due to an attack by a wild elephant at Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar
The incident occurred on Monday night in the Chhararkul area of Fasiakhali Union, Chakaria Upazila, according to Meheraj Uddin, the Range Officer of Fasiakhali Range under Cox’s Bazar North Forest Division.
The deceased, Mohammad Hossain (75), was the son of the late Azizur Rahman from the same area.
Citing family members, Meheraj Uddin said that the Chhararkul area of Fasiakhali Union is rich in forest cover. On Monday at around 5:00 pm, Mohammad Hossain left his home to take a walk in the surrounding area. When he did not return home even after dusk, his relatives searched various possible locations but could not find him. Eventually, around 10:00 PM, his bloodied body was found near a forest path in the Chhararkul area.
“The victim’s head was crushed in the elephant attack, with parts of it severed. It is initially believed that Mohammad Hossain was attacked by a wild elephant while walking along the forest path. The attacking elephant likely struck him with its trunk, causing severe injuries. He died due to critical head injuries,” said the range officer.
He added that upon receiving the news, a team from the forest department visited the site on Tuesday morning. They collected all relevant details about the incident.
Chakaria Police Station OC Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed hearing about the elderly man’s death due to a wild elephant attack in Fasiakhali, Chakaria. The body of the deceased is at his home.
He stated that legal measures have been taken regarding the incident.
