Ederly couple beaten, trees cut down in Sreepur

An elderly couple has been injured in an attack In Barama village of Sreepur upazila under Gazipur district. The assailants cut down several fruits and forest plants of the old man.
The injured are Abdul Majeed (85) and wife Anwara Begum (75) of deceased of Barama village. After being rescued with the help of passers-by, the elderly were treated at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
In this regard, the old Abdul Majeed has filed a complaint at Sreepur police station, accusing at least 10 people, including Ramiz Uddin, son of Ichim Sheikh, Shahid, son of Mofiz Uddin, Saizul, son of Shaheed, Asadul, son of Hatim Ali, Jasim, son of Shahid and unknown persons.
According to the details of the complaint, local residents and the injured, the accused started cutting bamboo and fruit trees near the old man's house around the evening of July 10. When he interrupted, the old man was beaten. Later, when his wife came out, he was also beaten. The assailants hurriedly left the scene with the cut trees when passers-by approached the old man's house shouting. Pedestrians rescued the injured and took them to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
According to local residents, the four sons of the old couple work as day laborers and lead separate family lives with their wives and children. They were also not at home at the time of the incident.
In this regard, Sreepur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Akbar Hossain said that according to the complaint, the police will be sent to the spot for investigation and action will be taken against the culprits.
