The economic liberation of humanity lies in the establishment of a zakat-based social system. And it is possible to establish a zakat-based social system only through the establishment of an Islamic state.
Muhaddis Abdul Khalek, the central organizing secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and member of parliament for Satkhira Sadar 2 constituency, said these things as the chief guest at a seminar titled "Fasting and Zakat" organized by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Satkhira Sadar Upazila branch at the Lakeview Conference Center in the city on Monday evening.
He further said that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami dreams of building a successful Islamic society and when an Islamic state is established, the state will be entrusted with the responsibility of collecting and distributing this zakat. Then the government will manage the zakat management properly and the creditors will get their due from this zakat in a proper manner. Everyone who has the nisab amount in their wealth will have to collect zakat from their own wealth account. He urged everyone to concentrate on worship by collecting zakat and ushr, which are among the obligatory provisions at the beginning of Ramadan.
MP Abdul Khaliq also said, Zakat is not a favor. The Prophet (peace be upon him) while defining Zakat said, Zakat should be collected from the rich and distributed among the needy. Allah has given the poor the right to the wealth of the rich and the rich should exercise that right.
Presenting the keynote address at the seminar, Shahidul Islam Mukul, Ameer of Satkhira District Jamaat, Vice President, said, Zakat is an obligatory act of worship. It is the right of the poor and suffering. It is not a mercy or grace towards them. Wherever Allah has mentioned prayer in the Holy Quran, he has also mentioned Zakat. Giving Zakat is a sign of piety. It is very important for those who have acquired wealth to pay Zakat. If someone does not pay Zakat voluntarily, arrangements should be made to collect Zakat through the government or through Islamic organizations.
The seminar, chaired by Sadar Jamaat Ameer Maulana Mosharraf Hossain and moderated by Secretary Maulana Habibur Rahman, featured special guest speakers including District Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Mahmudul Haque, Assistant Secretary Prof Obaidullah, former Principal of Satkhira Govt College Professor Liaquat Parvez, former Principal of Jhaudanga Fazil Madrasa Maulana Abdul Bari, former Sadar Jamaat Ameer District Working Committee Member Maulana Shahadat Hossain, Professor Abdul Wares, and others.
