EC serves show cause notice to mayor aspirant of Singra Municipality

The Election Commission on Thursday served a show-cause notice to mayoral aspirant Lutful Habib for his alleged involvement in beating and picking up the chairman candidate of Singra Municipality election.
On Monday, a group of miscreants picked up Delwar Hossain in their car and left him injured near his house when he was going to Natore district election office after submitting his nomination form online.
The notice served by the EC in response to a news published in daily Prothom Alo that claimed three persons, including a candidate and his brother, were kidnapped in Natore within a span of 5 hours.
All major national newspapers and online media outlets have published comprehensive reports holding Lutful Habib responsible for the incident.
Based on fact, the Election Commissioner has asked Habib to appear in person at the commission within 4:10 pm on Monday along with a written response to explain as to why his candidacy should not be revoked or legal action taken against him in light of the electoral code of conduct.
