EC seeks Tk 2,800Cr for 13th National Election

The Election Commission (EC) has proposed an estimated budget of Tk 2,800 crore for conducting the 13th National Parliament Election and maintaining law and order.

EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Nawaz on Wednesday (Feb 12) said that Tk 2,794.55 crore has been requested from the government for the national election.

He said that this is an initial estimate and will be finalized after further review and discussions with the EC Secretariat.

According to information, EC has sought Tk 5,921.72 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year for national and local government elections.

Additionally, Tk 69.25 crore has been allocated for voter list preparation and national ID printing and distribution in 2025-26, Tk 70.63 crore in 2026-27, and Tk 73.44 crore in 2027-28. The National Identity Registration Wing has been allocated Tk 70.80 crore for 2025-26, Tk 33.58 crore for 2026-27, and Tk 40.79 crore for 2027-28.

Previous years statistics show that the estimated cost for the 12th National Election, held on January 7, 2024, was Tk 2,276.22 crore. The 11th National Election in 2018 cost Tk 700 crore, while the 10th National Election in 2014 had an estimated cost of Tk 264.68 crore. The ninth, eighth, and seventh elections cost Tk 165 crore, Tk 72.71 crore, and Tk 11.47 crore, respectively.

The first national election in 1973 costing Tk 81.36 lakh.
