Police arrested Jahangir Mia, a notorious local drug lord with 10 to 12 pending narcotics cases, in connection with an armed robbery at a school teacher's home in Niteshwar village, Giasnagar Union.
Led by SI Ashraful Alam Chowdhury of Sadar Model Police Station, officers raided Jahangir's home following an August 1 case filed by the victim, Syed Abdul Muajid.
During the July 28 incident, two armed intruders broke into the home, held the family hostage at gunpoint, and stole gold and pearl jewelry, Tk 135,000 in cash, and six smartphones—totaling over Tk 11.6 lakh in stolen property. While Jahangir has been arrested multiple times previously for drug offenses, OC Saiful Islam confirmed this is his first arrest related to an armed robbery.
According to local sources and Ward Member Sajjadur Rahman, Jahangir and his brother Shahjahan Mia have long run a violent narcotics ring (yaba, heroin, weed, phensedyl) that has devastated local youth. Frustrated by the brothers repeatedly securing bail and making violent threats, over 100 local residents recently launched a mass signature petition to the District Police Superintendent requesting permanent legal intervention.
