Due to  doctor shortage in Ramgarh,  Khagrachari, nearly lakhs of people in this region have been neglected in medical services for a long time. Although the first sector, which is intertwined with the memories of the Liberation War and the beginning of the Bangladesh BDR Battalion, the century-old SDO bungalow have taken this Ramgarh to another level.It  was supposed to ensure better healthcare by protecting the basic rights of the people of different ethnic groups living in this region, but even after independence, people in Ramgarh have largely lagged behind government medical services.It is said that there is no advanced medical system in the marginal area. Most of the patients have to be sent to the city after primary treatment.  As per the information, in 2013, the Ramgarh Government Upazila Health Complex was upgraded from 31 beds to 50 beds, since then, although the number of patient beds has increased, the number of specialist doctors has not increased.Local businessman Md. Abdul Mannan said, "A few days ago, I went to the emergency room and waited for a long time but could not get a doctor. Later, I brought medicine from outside." On the other hand, besides Ramgarh, several thousand people from Bagan Bazar in the neighboring Fatikchhari upazila also have to seek medical services from the Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex. Due to the shortage of doctors, lakhs of people in the upazila are deprived of services.

Out of the number of people who come to the hospital expecting services, it is not easy for the hospital authorities to provide treatment with only 3 doctors permanently. As a result, patients are constantly being deprived of medical services. In addition to the shortage of doctors, there are vacancies for nurses and technicians, but it is not possible to increase the manpower for some invisible reason.A person named Shahin reported that he had been waiting from 10-11 am on Monday (April 28) but had not received treatment. This victim returned after waiting for a long time with a ticket but there was no doctor in room 3.

According to sources, the number of doctor posts in the 31-bed Ramgarh Hospital  Although there are 13, only 3 doctors are currently working. Although one or two come on deputation from time to time to perform additional duties, they leave Ramgarh under various pretexts.And there is only 1 doctor working as a female doctor, she is Dr. Roxana Yasmin. When we went to the hospital, it was seen that there are no specialist doctors in the departments of medicine, surgery, gynecology, anesthesia, ophthalmology, orthopedics, skin and genitals.In addition, patients suffer due to the negligence of the guards and reception staff. Since the wards of admitted patients are not cleaned properly, the toilets are unclean and emit a lot of stench, which poses a risk of healthy people getting sick.Among them, there are serious allegations that a cleaning worker named Hiralal is doing wood business without doing his duty. It is heard from the locals that he is replacing him with another outsider.And, the patients' lamentation over the lack of skilled gynecologists is beyond words. Sometimes, even if a female specialist is available, they are transferred after a few days. This is unfortunate for the people of Ramgarh. In addition, there is no nutritionist in the important departments of the hospital, nor is there a good system for high-quality testing.Although the lab room for testing is also very old and shabby, the big problem is that there are allegations of making fabricated reports against the lab technician. Despite repeated warnings from the hospital, the authorities have not received any results. Patients are constantly being sent to Feni, Chittagong and Dhaka.As a result, in addition to spending a lot of money, a long time has to be spent.Last year, a public caesarean section operation was started in the health complex in mid-2024. Although the people of Ramgarh saw some light in it, it was eventually stopped.The expert gynecologist who performed the operation did not stay in Ramgarh for long, many people do not know why the doctors left Ramgarh. Even after completing the operation theater at a cost of 5 lakh taka, it is of no use to the people.Talking to several employees who did not want to be named, it is known that the intervention in keeping doctors in the Ramgarh Health Complex is mostly done by the Zilla Parishad and the Health Ministry. The doctors from the city are appointed and then go to the city after lobbying.On the other hand, the voice of the face to face time to know about these issues, Ramgarh Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Mozammel Hossain admitted the current situation of the hospital and said that there is a shortage of doctors in the hospital, and the manpower shortage has been there for a long time.The concerned authorities are always informed, and we are getting assurances that doctors will be appointed in the hospital soon. He also said that we were facing problems due to the breakdown of the generator for a long time, a new 10 kV generator is being installed in a day or two. Hopefully, everything will gradually get better.
