DG Food forms 4 teams to monitor rice market, OMS activities in Dhaka

The Directorate General of Food (DG Food) has formed four teams to oversee the rice market and the Open Market Sale (OMS) activities across the capital Dhaka in response to the recent price surge in rice prices.
The four teams, consisting of additional and deputy directors of the Directorate General of Food, have been formed to conduct the drive from tomorrow, according to a circular issued on Tuesday.
The teams will work to prevent unsolicited price hikes of rice and to bring transparency in the OMS activities, added the circular. The team will inspect at least four OMS or truck sale activities and two markets in the capital every day to make its efforts successful.
The government agency has taken this initiative in response to the recent increase in rice prices, ranging from Tk 2 to Tk 6 per kilogram, depending on the varieties, over the past two weeks.
The price of coarse rice stood at Tk 54 to Tk 55 per kg at present which was Tk 50 to Tk 52 a week ago. Medium quality rice is being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 62 per kg while it was sold at Tk 55 to Tk 58 in the previous week.
Besides, per kg of miniket and nazirshail rice is being sold at Tk 68 to Tk 80 while the previous price was Tk 62 to Tk75.
