Moynul Haque Mridha, Rajbari
Three houses, 12 cows and 11 maunds of paddy have been burnt to ashes in the isolated Char Kushahata area of Daulatdia union in Goalando upazila in Rajbari district. The destitute family is living under the open sky after moving from house to house. No fire service vehicle could reach the spot due to the isolated dike of the Padma River.
The accident occurred at Jewel Molla's house in Kushahata area of Ward No. 1 of Daulatdia Union around 10 pm on Tuesday. Md. Islam Molla is the son of local Jamal Molla.
Local resident Phul Khan said that on Tuesday night at around 10 pm, people from the surrounding area saw a sudden fire in Islam Molla's house and came to control the fire. By then, his 3 houses, 12 out of 14 cows, 11 maunds of paddy, furniture, rice and everything was burnt to ashes in the terrible fire. However, there were no casualties as no one was in the house. However, locals believe that the fire could have started from a mosquito coil or an electric short circuit.
Islam Molla said in a tearful voice, "I have nothing left. I have no house, no cows, no household goods, and nothing like food. I don't know where I will live with my family or what I will eat. I only have the clothes I wear." He also said, "I have suffered losses of over 10 lakh taka, including my house."
UNO Md. Nahidur Rahman said, "The matter is regrettable. In addition to providing immediate relief assistance to the affected families, we have informed the Disaster and Relief Department about the matter. We will initially provide cash to the affected families."
