A passenger named Sohail (35) was killed when two launches carrying passengers collided in the middle of the Meghna river amid thick fog. Several people were injured in this incident at 12 - 30 pm on Monday.

The collision occurred between the Surbhi-8 and Tipu-14 launches at a place called Haimchar on the Meghna River.

The deceased passenger. Sohail's house is in Bholar Elisha. He was a passenger in the Surbhi-8 launch which suffered an accident.

Shafayat Ahmed Rajib, a passenger in the Surbhi-8 launch, said that the Surbhi-8 launch left for Dhaka's Sadarghat with about 250 passengers from Elisha launch ghat in Bhola.

After arriving at a place called Haimchar on the Meghna River, Surbhi-8 collided with a passenger launch named Tipu-14, which was traveling from Dhaka to Bhola Charfashan in thick fog. It broke the right side of the Surbhi-8 launch. Several passengers of the launch were injured in the incident.

The passenger of the launch, Mostak Shahin, said that he was also in the launch during the incident and the tragic death happened in front of him.

Ilisha Police Investigation Center in-charge Gamim Mustafa confirmed the death of one passenger in the collision between the two launches.

On the other hand, there was a collision between the launches of MV Rafar-7 and MV AR Khan-1 in Mohanpur area of Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur. In this, the two-story taxin of the Rofar-7 launch was broken. However, there was no damage to the lives of the passengers.

Deputy Director of Chandpur BIWTA Shahadat Hossain said, it has been ordered not to operate boats in inclement weather and thick fog. But many are disobeying the instructions of the authorities and operating the boats. It often causes accidents.
