Demra- Kaliganj road of Rupganj : 6 feet of 30 feet road occupied, removal of power poles needed

Ruhul Amin Rupgonj, Narayanganj

The construction of two roads from Demra-Kaliganj road to Purbachal in Rupganj of Narayanganj is going on.

On paper, the road is 30 feet wide, but in many places it has become 24 feet wide and rest 6 feet in the possession of the locals. Again, there are unplanned electricity poles in many places on the road. The renovation work is going on without removing them and putting them in their proper place. As a result, the residents fear that instead of benefiting the road users, the suffering will increase.

It can be seen from the surface, there is a 6 km road from Mushuri on the Demra-Kaliganj road to the Purbachal project. Also another 7 km from Mussoorie to Bagber. Passengers and pedestrians were suffering because these two roads were not renovated for 7 years. However, 2 years ago, in the face of people's demands, the government allocated Tk 85 crore with the efforts of local MP Golam Dastgir Gazi Birpratik. Work starts with this money.

The road is 30 feet wide. The road is supposed to be worked with both RCC and carpeting methods. There will be 3 feet by 6 feet sidewalk on both sides. It can be seen that the road is 20 feet wide on both sides and 24 feet wide on both sides after Ichakhali Gazi Bridge. The same picture is in Fazur Bari, Jangir Bazar, Harinda Gabtali, Bhaktabari Bazar and Habib Nagar areas of Rupganj's Mushuri area. Again, no 30 feet road is empty anywhere in the populated and market areas of Tan Mushuri Bazar, Dakshinbagh Bazar, Bagber Bazar. Part of these roads are owned by the neighboring land owners and residents.

Locals have built shops on government halt in Bhaktabari Bazar area. In this regard, the upazila administration took measures to evict the illegal occupants and issued a red ink first and then a final notice of eviction. Still the illegal occupants did not leave the land.

Rupganj Upazila LGED Assistant Engineer Ashraful Islam said that after identifying the land in Bhaktabari Bazar area, the illegal occupants were asked to move. Some have moved away. Legal action will be taken against those who have not yet gone.

In this regard, Chief Engineer of Rupganj Upazila LGED Mahmud Morshed said that the entrance road from Mushuri to Purbachal should be 30 feet. It is 30 feet on both sides where I got the land. And we are trying to vacate the places where there are illegal occupants.

On both sides of the same road, there are more than 511,000 voltage line poles under Purbachal Zonal Office of Narayanganj Palli Vidyut Samiti 2. The people of Elaba think that it is necessary to remove these poles and put them in the right place for public interest.

Haseeb Mia, a resident of Daudpur, said that it is sad to work without removing the electricity pole. In this regard, Rupganj's Purbachal Zonal Office Manager Labibul Bashar said, the process of removal is under process.
