Staff Correspondent

Agitated locals have vandalised a residence and torched three vehicles in Dhaka's Banasree area over allegations that a household worker was murdered.

The deceased was identified as Asma Begum, aged about 33.

The violence began at House No. 32 on Road No. 4 in the D-Block around 10:30am on Sunday.

Several people including police officials were injured during a clash while police attempting to bring the situation under control.

Hayatul Islam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division Police, said a household worker died there. The reason behind the death could not be known yet. The body was found lying outside the house and agitated locals vandalised it.

Locals say that they found the body in front of the house gate early in the morning. They later learnt the victim worked as a household aide at the house.

Besides, several people were held from the spot for interrogation, Deputy Commissioner said.
