DCs want more helicopters for emergency use

Staff Correspondent

The Deputy Commissioners (DC) demanded the allocation of more helicopters for use in various emergency operations.

The DCs attending the annual conference in Dhaka today said, “They are not getting helicopters as per their demand. It may be temporary. But earlier helicopters were always provided as per their demand. They have demanded to increase it.”

Prime Minister’s Security Affairs Adviser Maj Gen (retired) Tarique Ahmed Siddique said that considering the current financial situation, we have already reduced the use of helicopters. With the global economic recession going on, the government is providing subsidies for oil heavily, each helicopter flight consumes a lot of fuel.

Modernisation of the radar system in Cox's Bazar and other meteorological stations, the establishment of a signal lighthouse in Patharghata upazila of Barguna, organisation of army-civil joint exercises to increase experience and skills in dealing with emergencies or natural disasters, increasing coordination with DCs in construction of border roads and updating civil-military guidance and related SOPs were discussed in the conference, a notification from the Cabinet Department confirmed.
