Cybercrime awareness campaign for youth launched

Staff Correspondent

Nagorik Dhaka, a Dhaka-based social activist platform, on Wednesday initiated a comprehensive yearlong awareness campaign to address the growing cybercrime risks among youths.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Police Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid was the chief guest at the opening seminar titled “Cybercrime and Risk Exposure for Young Students” at the South Point School and College (SPSC) in Baridhara.

SPSC Baridhara unit Principal AM Amjad Hussain inaugurated the panel discussion in the attendance of Professor SM Arifuzzaman from Canadian University of Bangladesh and Advocate Nazmul Hasan from Nagorik Dhaka.

Nagorik Dhaka President M Nayeem Hossain chaired the session.

Organisers informed that Nagorik Dhaka has a vision of propelling Dhaka city to the status of one of the world's most liveable cities within the next two decades.

Addressing the programme, Detective Branch chief Harun-or-Rashid emphasised the importance of guardians reporting an offence to law enforcement agencies at the earliest.

In his speech, Nayeem Hossain of Nagorik Dhaka urged alerting the youth on safe internet navigation.

Recognising the pivotal role the youth would have to play in shaping Dhaka city's future, Nagorik Dhaka officials urged the utilisation of positive aspects of technology for the overall improvement of young minds, acknowledging that technology has both positive and negative impacts.
