Cyber police unit to be formed, says PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday asked the Bangladesh Police to intensify their efforts in eradicating militancy, terrorism, drug abuse, and corruption, underscoring these actions as pivotal for the nation's peace, stability, and future prosperity.
Speaking at the inauguration of Police Week-2024 in Dhaka's Rajarbagh Police Lines, she outlined the vision of a developed and prosperous Bangladesh reliant on robust law enforcement.
The prime minister said her government has attached priority to make police force into more efficient, time befitting, professional and world standard as the globe is witnessing newer trend of militancy, terrorism and cyber crime.
"We have a plan to form cyber police unit. We have been implementing various measures to turn the police into a skilled force by providing its members with multifaceted trainings."
She referred to the anti-terrorism unit, counter terrorism and transnational crime unit to contain the militancy. "Our operation against militancy, terrorism, drugs, and corruption will persist. The police must play a proactive role. The peace and stability of our country are paramount for achieving our developmental goals," the Prime Minister stated.
Some other units that included DNA Lab, cyber security unit, police bureau of investigation were established by the Awami League government, she said.
Sheikh Hasina said her government is going to set up a complete aviation wing for the police force with inclusion of two helicopters to enhance its operational capacity in hard-to-reach areas.
