Cultivated land grabbed by sand selling ponds in Manohardi

Saifur Nishad, Manohardi (Narsingdi)

The collapse of the pond created by the sale of sand in Manohardi is going to destroy the adjacent cropland.

Complaints have been submitted to the authorities on behalf of the affected landowners seeking redressal.

12/13 years ago in Rampur village of Manohardi, a man named Nazrul Islam sold sand from a land inherited from his ancestors. This created a pond 20/25 feet deep.

A plow passing by was also wiped out in the pond. Due to this pond, some crop lands including Sudhanshu Banik, a former school teacher of Rampur village, started to break down. In the recent rains, the damage was taking a large form.

Sudhanshu Banik's 12 century crop land broke and its soil disappeared into the pond. Happened. The same incident happened in neighboring Manoranjan Banik, Sukhranjan Banik, Keshav Banik and Niranjan Banik. The affected land owners submitted a written complaint to the Manohardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer on March 18 of last year.

Their claim that here is no end to the matter even for a long time. In such a situation, there is a fear that the rest of their land will be lost in the pond due to the continuous destruction of the coming monsoon.

Nazrul Islam, the owner of the pond accused in this regard, said that the owners of the land have created the destruction by cutting the drain here to drain the monsoon water. Why should he take the responsibility now? In this regard, Manohardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hashiba Khan said, He will look into the complaint and take necessary action.
