
Coast Guard working to increase public awareness in conservation of mother hilsa

Bangladesh Coast Guard has been working to increase public awareness among fishermen and fish traders on the occasion of "Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign - 2024".
On Sunday noon, Coast Guard Headquarters media officer Lt. Commander Khandaker Munif Taki gave the information.
Various activities have been taken to protect "Mother Hilsa" during the breeding season of Hilsa fish. According to the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act-1950 for the purpose of preserving the breeding area of Hilsa, from October 13 to November 3, 2024, extraction, transportation, stockpiling, marketing and buying and selling of Hilsa will be prohibited throughout the country during the main breeding season of Hilsa for a total of 22 days. On this occasion, Bangladesh Coast Guard is playing an active role in the management of "Mother Hilsa Conservation Campaign - 2024".
In order to increase public awareness among fishermen and fish traders, the Coast Guard is creating awareness by distributing leaflets, posting, miking in various ways. Today Sunday (13 October 2024) on the 1st day of Ma Hilsa conservation campaign, Bangladesh Coast Guard is conducting patrol activities in the rivers under the South.
In addition to the responsibility of Bangladesh Coast Guard, Coast Guard patrols will continue round-the-clock patrolling to protect the hilsa fish in coastal and river areas.
