Coast Guard seized drugs, 410,000 pieces of Yaba, heroin worth Tk 42 cr in St Martin's

Bangladesh Coast Guard in an operation seized drugs; 410,000 pieces of Yaba and 21- kg 500 grams of heroin worth Tk 42 crore in St. Martin's, Teknaf.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan gave this information on Thursday noon.
Bangladesh Coast Guard has been playing an important role in the overall security of the country's coastal and riverine areas and the country's only coral island, Saint Martin, maintaining law and order, and preventing smuggling including drug and human trafficking. In addition, the Coast Guard is conducting regular patrols and strict operations to keep the island completely drug-free, along with special surveillance to preserve its biodiversity and natural balance.
In continuation of this, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Station St. Martin on 8 October 2026 at 6 am within the Bangladesh-Myanmar International Maritime Boundary (IMBL) area adjacent to St. Martin's within the maritime boundary of Bangladesh based on secret information. During the operation, when a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat was signaled to stop in the said area, the drug smugglers, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, threw 3 sacks into the water and fled to the Myanmar maritime boundary. Later, the operational team searched the sacks and seized 4 lakh 10 thousand pieces of Yaba worth about 42 crore taka and about 21 kg 500 grams of heroin.
Further legal action regarding the seized drugs ihas bern taken.
The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to ensure the overall security of the atoll of Saint Martin and prevent the spread of dangerous drugs, the press release added.
