Coast Guard rescued critically ill passenger from passenger launch following 16111 Emergency Call

Staff Correspondent

The Bangladesh Coast Guard provided emergency medical assistance and safely evacuated an ailing passenger from a Barishal-bound passenger vessel on Tuesday following a distress call received on its official hotline '16111'.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the details in a press release on Tuesday morning.

According to Coast Guard officials, an ill passenger returning to Barishal after receiving medical treatment in Dhaka boarded the passenger launch MV M Khan-7. At around 2:00 am, as the launch reached the Lalpur area adjacent to Chandpur, the patient’s physical condition deteriorated sharply. Observing the sudden medical emergency, the launch supervisor immediately contacted the Coast Guard emergency helpline '16111' seeking urgent medical assistance.

Upon receiving the call, a specialized medical team from Coast Guard Station Chandpur dispatched a high-speed craft to intercept the launch. The medical team boarded the vessel and administered vital emergency treatment to stabilize the passenger.

To ensure advanced care, the patient was subsequently evacuated via a Coast Guard boat to the Chandpur Launch Ghat and transported via a private ambulance to Shyamoli Kidney Hospital under official supervision.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard remains dedicated to providing prompt humanitarian assistance and emergency services across the nation's waterways, the press release added.
