Embodied members of the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP detained a thief and recovered four stolen smartphones alongside drug paraphernalia from the Nephrology Ward of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), formerly PG Hospital, on Monday.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 am in C-Block of the hospital when a phone belonging to a service-seeker, Shahidul Islam, was stolen. As the suspect attempted to flee the ward, on-duty Ansar Assistant Platoon Commander (APC) Arup Chakraborty and Ansar members Sajal Shakhari, Md. Mashiur, and Md. Nasir Uddin immediately gave chase.
Following a coordinated pursuit by the security personnel, the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Bhutto Mia, was caught red-handed while attempting to escape the hospital premises.
Upon searching the detainee, Ansar members seized four high-end smartphones of various brands and syringes used for drug consumption. Following directives from the hospital administration, the suspect was handed over to Shahbagh Police Station along with the recovered items for further legal action.
Hospital authorities and patients commended the prompt action and vigilance of the Ansar members stationed at the public medical institution.
