Coast Guard recovered Indian sarees worth Tk 6 cr in Narayanganj

Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a huge amount of sarees and velvet cloths worth around Tk 6 crores that have been smuggled from India in Narayanganj, Dhaka.
Coast Guard Headquarters Media Officer Lt. Md. Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the matter to the media on Friday morning.
On the basis of confidential information, it is learnt that a large quantity of illegal Indian goods will enter Dhaka via Narayanganj. Based on the information received, a special operation was conducted in Aliganj area of Qutubpur Union under Fatulla Thana of Narayanganj district from 1400 hrs to 1600 hrs on 03 October by BCG Station Pagla. If the movement of a stone-laden truck is suspicious during the operation, the Coast Guard signals the truck to stop.
When the truck tried to escape without stopping, the Coast Guard raiding party chased the truck. Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the driver and accomplice abandoned the truck and fled.
Later, the truck was searched and 2,210 pieces of expensive sarees and 3,000 yards of velvet cloth were seized in a fancy manner hidden under rocks. The estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk 5,90,25,000.
The truck with seized goods was handed over to Fatulla police station for further legal action.
