The Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted an operation and detained six smugglers along with 291 sacks of Urea fertilizer and 9,072 pieces of Royal Tiger (energy drinks), valued at about Tk 8 lakh while being illegally smuggled to Rakhine State in Myanmar.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid disclosed this information through a press release on Saturday morning.
The press release stated that based on confidential information, on May 13 (Friday) at 1:00 PM, the Coast Guard Station Cox’s Bazar conducted a special operation in the sea area adjacent to Nazirartek in Cox’s Bazar. During the operation, when a suspicious engine-powered wooden boat was signaled to stop, it ignored the signal and attempted to flee towards the deep sea at high speed upon noticing the Coast Guard's presence.
After a one-hour chase, the operational team detained the boat and, upon inspection, seized 291 sacks of urea fertilizer and 9,072 pieces of Royal Tiger, valued at 7 lakh 81 thousand 410 taka, being smuggled to Rakhine State in Myanmar by evading customs duties.
The six detained smugglers are all residents of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.
