Coast Guard detained 5 smugglers with 600 bags of cement en route to Myanmar

The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained five smugglers and seized a wooden boat loaded with 600 bags of cement that were being illegally smuggled to Myanmar, evading government customs duties.
According to a press statement issued on.Friday afternoon by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, the special drive was carried out by a team from Coast Guard Outpost Patenga on Thursday evening (July 2) at around 6:00 PM.
The operation was launched based on a tip-off near Ghat No. 15 under Patenga Police Station in Chittagong.
During the raid, Coast Guard personnel intercepted a suspicious wooden boat. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 600 bags of cement, estimated to be worth approximately Tk 3 lakh. Five individuals on board were immediately detained, and the boat was seized.
Legal proceedings regarding the detained smugglers, the seized cement, and the vessel used in the crime have been taken.
The Coast Guard will remain vigilant and continue its rigorous operations to dismantle cross-border smuggling networks, the press release added.
