The Bangladesh Coast Guard is conducting regular drives and public awareness campaigns in Chandpur to ensure the protection of mother hilsa during the ongoing breeding season.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
To safeguard national fishery resources and ensure safe breeding, the government has imposed a 22-day nationwide ban on catching, transporting, stocking, marketing, and selling hilsa from October 8 to October 29.
The press release stated that the Coast Guard has intensified intelligence surveillance and continuous patrolling across rivers and coastal areas to strictly enforce the ban.
In addition to operational enforcement, Coast Guard personnel are conducting awareness activities—including loudspeaker announcements, leaflet distribution, and discussion sessions—urging local fishermen to comply with government regulations.
The force is also executing joint operations in coordination with the district administration, Department of Fisheries, and other law enforcement agencies to take stern legal action against violators.
The Coast Guard called upon the public to report any violations or illegal fishing activities to its emergency service number (16111), the press release added.
