The Bangladesh Coast Guard, in collaboration with the Fire Service and Civil Defence, conducted a joint fire-fighting drill and public awareness campaign in St Martin's Island on Wednesday to enhance emergency preparedness across tourist infrastructure and commercial establishments.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Wednesday noon.
The joint exercise aimed to evaluate emergency response protocols, test rapid deployment capabilities, and raise fire safety awareness among local stakeholders. During the drill, hotel staff, resort personnel, and local residents received practical instructions on fire hazards, primary fire-suppression techniques, proper operation of safety equipment, and preventative measures against fire outbreaks.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard maintains continuous law enforcement and public safety operations across coastal and riverine regions, emphasizing that similar awareness initiatives will continue to ensure the security of residents and tourists in the maritime destination, the press release added.
