Faridpur Correspondent
Two and a half months after transport businessman Youssuf Fakir was found murdered in Faridpur, police are yet to unearth the motive or arrest any suspects, prompting his grieving family to press for immediate action and safety amidst death threats.
Despite two separate cases being filed—one with the police station and another with the court—law enforcers have failed to make any breakthrough in the investigation or apprehend those involved.
Addressing a press conference at the Faridpur Press Club at 12:30 pm on Monday , the victim’s family raised an 11-point demand, including a fair investigation, the swift arrest of the perpetrators, and official security for their family. They also alleged that they have been receiving continuous threats to withdraw the cases.
"We live in constant fear and uncertainty," said Bedena Akter, 38, the widow of the deceased, while addressing journalists alongside her 15-year-old son Shahadat Hossain and 10-year-old daughter Ilma Akter. The family resides in Lokmankhar Dangi village under Charmadhabdia Union of Faridpur Sadar upazila.
According to family members and local sources, Youssuf Fakir, 47, went missing on July 16. Two days later, on the morning of July 18, local residents spotted him lying bound hand-and-foot in a jute field near his residence.
He was rushed in critical condition to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, Bedena filed a murder case against unidentified individuals with Kotwali Police Station on July 19.
Despite months passing since the tragic death, law enforcement agencies have made no visible progress, leaving the family desperate for justice.
