Clash at BNP's human chain in Noakhali leaves 5 Injured

Noakhali Correspondent

A clash broke out between two factions of the BNP during a human chain in Noakhali town's Maijdee, leaving at least five people injured. The incident occurred when one faction attempted to obstruct the human chain organized by another faction.

The clash took place on Thursday  in front of the Noakhali District Administrator's office. Those injured include Kamal Uddin (55), president of the BNP in Ward 7 of Char Jabbar Union in Subarnachar Upazila; Rakib Zia (27), a local Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist; Sujan Mia (26), a leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal; Sharif (35), a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader; and Abul Khair Akash (38), joint convener of the Subarnachar Upazila Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

Speakers at the human chain included Dr. Shahjahan, Kamal Uddin, Zakir Hossain, Rayhan, and Bhutu Majhi, among others. They stated that the case filed against BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman was initiated by Subarnachar Upazila Awami League President Advocate Omar Faruq. They also criticized Abdullah Mia, former chairman of Char Jabbar Union Parishad and an advisor to the local BNP, for allegedly working with Awami League MP Ekramul Karim Chowdhury and benefiting from the party's privileges for 17 years. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, Abdullah Mia allegedly used his militant forces to seize fish farms and lands from several individuals in the area.

The speakers claimed that local residents organized the human chain to protest against Abdullah Mia's actions. However, Akash, a supporter of Abdullah Mia, attempted to disrupt the event. When he was confronted by the protesters, Akash called for reinforcements, leading to a clash between the two groups.

Later, police and army personnel arrived at the scene to restore order. Three of the injured were admitted to Noakhali General Hospital.

Abul Khair Akash, joint convener of the Subarnachar Upazila Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, claimed that the protesters deliberately created chaos to politically malign them.

Former UP Chairman Abdullah Mia denied the allegations, stating that some isolated individuals were spreading propaganda against him to politically discredit him. He asserted that he had never misbehaved with anyone or seized land using the party's name.

Sudharam Model Police Station's OC Md. Kamrul Islam confirmed the incident and said that police would take legal action based on the complaints filed.
