Sabbir Ibn Siddiq, Hatiya (Noakhali).
Many important educational institutions have been submerged in the river due to severe river erosion in Hatiyar Charishwar Union, Dwip Upazila of Noakhali.
Among these are several ancient educational institutions, including Char Ishwar Afazia High School, Afazia Government Primary School, Afazia Jame Mosque, which will soon disappear. As a result, thousands of students in this region are in danger of being deprived of the light of education.
Locals said that the erosion of the Meghna River has become severe over the past few years. Not only homes but also educational institutions are being lost one by one due to river erosion. In particular, Afazia High School, Afazia Government Primary School, madrasas and mosques will be destroyed due to erosion.
If steps are not taken to prevent erosion.
Amjad Hossain, a teacher at Afazia High School, said that due to erosion, the school building has been repeatedly lost and has to be shifted to another place. This is destroying the educational environment and reducing students' interest in studying. Many students are abandoning their studies and turning to work.
According to sources from the Education Department, more than 25 educational institutions in Afazia Union alone have been completely destroyed by the erosion. The number in the entire Hatia Upazila has reached more than fifty. The buildings, libraries, laboratories and playgrounds of these institutions have been submerged in the river, causing extensive damage.
Guardian Zaker Hossain said they are extremely worried about their children. They want a permanent solution, fearing that a school or madrasa could disappear at any moment due to the constant erosion of the river.
Nipu Khalji said that the memories of her parents and grandparents are facing destruction due to the erosion of the Meghna River. She is suffering greatly from the fear that her childhood playground, courtyard and beloved educational institution will be submerged in the river. She fears that if the once traditional school is lost, not only memories but also the history of generations will be erased.
Educationists believe that if education is destroyed, the next generation will be plunged into darkness. Therefore, it is very important to urgently undertake a river erosion prevention project to protect key educational institutions, including Aphasia Schools.
