Bumper crop of mustard smiles farmers in Madan

The bumper crop has been harvested this time as the farmers of Madan are more focused on mustard cultivation.

According to the Agriculture Office, the agriculture department of the upazila has taken 270 hectares of land under mustard cultivation with government incentives this year and is directly monitoring the cultivation at the field level.

In addition, the farmers have cultivated local varieties of mustard on their own initiative in about 30 hectares of land. Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of the upazila Golam Rabbani spoke to this reporter at Gaubindashree Haor on Tuesday.

He said farmers in the haor area did not pay much attention to mustard cultivation.Last year only mustard was cultivated in this upazila in about 70 hectares of land.He further said that 270 farmers in my area have cultivated hybrid mustard under this incentive.Target levels in production have not yet been set,Talking to some farmers in the area, they said with a smile that the mustard yield has improved with the help of the agriculture department with the encouragement of the government.

At this moment the mustard crop will benefit us, we will also get good price of the crop.This money will be used for irrigation, fertilizer and labor of Eri-Buro season paddy crop. Mahajani loans will not be required. Farmers are hopeful that mustard harvesting will start in a week or two.
