BUHS VC Prof Dr Faridul Alam and others in the Doctor’s Dialogue Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) jointly organized a Doctor’s Dialogue on “Right to Protein”. The seminar aided by US Soya bean Export Council (USSEC) was held on 30 May at 10.30 am at Ibrahim Auditorium of the University. Prof Dr Faridul Alam, Vice-Chancellor of BUHS attended the program as chief guest while Prof Dr Md. Fazlur Rahman, Director General of BIHS General Hospital was present as special guest. Prof Dr Md. Anower Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Public Health of BUHS was in Chair.

Dr. Biplob Kumar Pramanik, General Secretary of BPICC delivered welcome speech and Shamsunnahar Nahid Mohua, Head, Department of Diet and Nutrition of BIRDEM presented key-note speech in the session. Shamsul Arefin Khaled, President of BPICC and Khabibur Rahman, Bangladesh Team Lead of USSEC addressed in the seminar.

In the discussion session, Prof Dr Khaleda Islam, Director, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of the Dhaka University and Prof Shaheen Ahmed, former Principal of the Govt. College of Applied Human Sciences spoke on the importance of protein intakes for the people. Prof Faridul Alam said, “Sufficient quantity of protein intake is necessary for the formation, maintenance and development of human body. It is inevitable for proper brain functioning and prevention from diseases.

Protein rich food should be kept within the purchasing capacity of the common people. Health professionals especially the public health experts should work for building awareness among the common people for protein intake. In the concluding speech, Prof Md. Anower Hussain expressed his thanks and gratitude to all the guests and participants for their valued presence in the program. Teachers and around two hundred students of the University and high officials of concerned organizations were present in the seminar.
