
DU Criminology Department introductory meeting held

The introductory meeting of the students of the 1st year undergraduate program of the Department of Criminology, Dhaka University was held on Monday at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium. Emeritus Professor of the Department of English, Dhaka University Dr. A. F. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury was present as the chief guest at the event.
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Taiyebur Rahman, spoke as the guest of honor at the event, chaired by Department Chairperson Shaharia Afrin. The vote of thanks was expressed by the department's teacher, Md. Rezaul Karim Sohag.
Professor Dr. A. F. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said, "The rulers change in society but the dictatorship does not change. To change society, social unity must be built." Highlighting various images of social crimes, he said, "To eradicate crime, the causes of social crimes must be identified. In order to eradicate social crimes, all concerned, including the state and society, must play their respective roles." Stressing the importance of increasing cultural practices in society, he said, "Culture is our identity. Therefore, we must develop our culture." Wishing the students success, he said, "In addition to academic studies, the practice of literary practice must be increased."
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Taiyebur Rahman, welcomed the new students and said that in addition to studying at the university, students have the opportunity to work with various organizations. Students should be careful not to get involved in criminal activities in any way. In the current unstable society, attention should also be paid to the mental health of students.
