A group of students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) staged a demonstration on Friday over entrance of some political leaders on the campus.

They claimed the central leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) had organized a programme on the campus on Friday amid the ban on political activities.

Notably, BUET authorities banned student politics on October 11, 2019, after Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering, was beaten to death by a group of BCL activists at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall between the night of October 6 and early hours of October 7.

The agitating students conducted a press conference in front of Shaheed Minar around 7:30 pm and announced the boycott of the class and examination on Saturday and Sunday raising a six-point demand, including the expulsion of those involved in politics on the campus.

Six-point demand:

1. Permanent expulsion of 21st batch civil engineering student Imtiaz Rabbi, the main organiser of the political program at midnight due to violation of the clear rules of the university.

2. Expulsion of the rest of the students, who were involved with Imtiaz, from the hall and term for different periods.

3. The administration should be given clear accountability regarding whether legal action will be taken against the external politicians who have entered the campus, why and how they were allowed to enter.

4. If the above demands 1 and 2 are not implemented by 9am on Saturday, we demand the resignation of DSW (Director of Student Welfare) of all the batch students.

5. The students are worried about their safety due to outsiders entering the campus in the middle of the night. As a protest, students are boycotting all academic activities including term finals on March 30 and 31.

6. A written undertaking must be given to the effect that no harassing action will be taken against the agitating general students of BUET.
