Staff Correspondent

A relative of State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain returned Tk nine lakh out of 94 lakh, which was taken from some job seekers as bribe to give them jobs as primary schoolteachers, to the office of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Mintoo Road in the capital on Sunday.

The money was returned to the DB as per the directive of the state minister.

Zakir Hossain told journalists that some people took the money from the job seekers using his name.

After being informed, he found out them and asked them to return the money to the job seekers, he said.

Fazle Elahi, additional deputy commissioner (DB) of DMP, said that a relative of the minister returned the money amounting to Tk nine lakh to the DB office.

He said that one Abu Sufian gave the money to a number of people who took so in the name of the minister.

The money was kept in the DB office and those would be returned to the victims later on.

Allegations were raised that the state minister called three job seekers in his residence and tortured them as they demanded their money, they allegedly paid him as bribe, back from him on Thursday.

Later, a report was published in a newspaper on the matter.

Abu Sufian alleged that they (a number of job seekers) gave Tk 94 lakh to the minister as bribe to get jobs as primary schoolteachers.
